The Danger of a Single Story

Dream of Destiny encourages the intentional fostering of diversity by our Christian leaders.  For leaders to truly be successful in this regard – avoiding tokenism and stereotypes – we must be aware of the danger of a single story.

Here is a classic Ted Talk by novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, from July, 2009, that speaks to this danger:

“Our lives, our cultures, are composed of many overlapping stories. Novelist Chimamanda Adichie tells the story of how she found her authentic cultural voice – and warns that if we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding.”
